THE WORLD BEHIND THE SKIN
GABRIELE MITELLI
cornet, soprano sax, prepared trumpet, elettronics, object
To take over a space, to make its inhabitants’ feelings your own, to bring your own traditions and folklore with you, to let them spread on a foreign land like marbles on the floor. To feel the weight of your own history, the colors it left behind, the gestures of the land’s workers and the assembly lines, the origins, your own land… to find your own memories away from home, with your eyes shut, in the noise.
This solo from Mitelli isn’t a concert nor a performance. It is the occupation of a physical and emotional space, the attempt to recreate his familiarity and tell his story through sound and noise, the effort to find his own self inside the relationships, the works and the walls that build it.

BOX WITH THE SOUND OF ITS MAKING / NEO CLASSIC / 21.3 / WATERMAN SWITCH WATERMAN SWITCH REVISITED / FINCH COLLAGE PROJECT
A moment of dialogue and dynamic interaction between Mitelli and the work by American artist Robert Morris, champion and main theorist of minimal art during the ‘60s. This project is inspired by the idea of inclusion in Morris’ work, and includes many elements and visions from that work, both about the intimate and the practical, earthly worlds. This is well clear, for example, in the work Box with the sound of its own making, where a box of wood plays the sound produced by his creator while he was building it.
The first performance The world behind the skin took place at MART Museum in Rovereto.
